Description: The interior wetlands conservation district restricts development adjacent to the island’s unique freshwater wetlands in order to preserve the vital ecological functions of these ecosystems. The district permits small residential and educational facilities in areas above three feet in elevation, but provides setback requirements, limits the use of fill, and sets standards for the protection of wildlife and native vegetation.
