Description:
Sanibel’s site preparation standards aim to minimize the harmful environmental effects of development on terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. The ordinance mandates that all development be conducted to protect natural drainage patterns, control erosion and sedimentation, reduce the use of fill, limit the removal of vegetation and promote re-vegetation, prohibit nuisances such as discarded debris and litter, identify and protect wildlife habitat, restore any areas damaged during construction, and encourage the use of sand and shell driveways to reduce impermeable coverage. Specific technologies are suggested, where appropriate, and timelines are set out to guide the implementation of these measures during the development process.
