Description:
Framingham envisions its PUD districts’ intent as allowing “an alternative use and pattern of land development for large tracts of land zoned for manufacturing, light manufacturing or business, by allowing single-family and multi-family clustered residential development and other uses … while encouraging the conservation of significant open space in the district and providing affordable housing opportunity… ”. PUD’s in Framingham are overlay districts that are proposed, and then adopted by a district vote of at least two-thirds at an annual or special town meeting. The PUD districts may not exceed 100 feet in width in order to provide access to public streets, and a special permit is required for development within a PUD. The town requires that affordable housing units within PUDs be “nearly indistinguishable from the exterior appearance of the market-rate units ” and that at least 10 % of the units within a PUD be affordable housing.
